Open Water

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the first level of scuba diving certification. It teaches you the basic knowledge and skills you need to safely dive to a depth of 60 feet (18 meters). The course includes a combination of online learning, pool training, and open water dives. Once you have completed the course, you will be a certified scuba diver and can explore the underwater world.
Here are the key components of the PADI Open Water Diver course:
- Knowledge development: This includes learning about scuba diving equipment, physics, physiology, and safety procedures.
- Pool training: This allows you to practice the basic skills of scuba diving, such as breathing underwater, equalizing your ears, and controlling your buoyancy.
- Open water dives: These are conducted in a controlled environment, such as a lake or calm ocean, and allow you to apply the skills you learned in the pool.
The Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about advancing your skills. Available also in eLearning, the first phase of this training is Knowledge Development, which includes lessons on popular specialty dives. In the second phase you’ll practice underwater navigation and buoyancy, try deep diving and make three specialty dives of your choosing. During the final phase, after some skill practice with your instructor, you’ll make five open water dives. There’s no exam because this course is truly about having fun and gaining experience. For every specialty dive you complete, you can earn credit toward PADI specialty certifications.

Learn about different types of underwater scooters, their care and maintenance and how to use a DPV when diving with a buddy. If you’re thinking about buying a DPV, this course is a great place to start.
